In these pages you can view a bit about my background, philosophy, and experience as an educator, interpreter, and linguist, and see how each of these fields interact and support each other. 

 

My linguistic research enhances my craft as both an interpreter and teacher, while the needs I see in classrooms and in the interpreting and Deaf communities inform the research questions and methodology I use in linguistic studies.

The ever-exchanging relationship between the three keep all three consistently exciting and engaging.

Educator

I have always appreciated the sentiment, "Who dares to teach must never cease to learn," and whether I am facilitating learning with students in a classroom or online, colleagues in workshops, or mentees in one-on-one relationships, I relish my own learning that takes place alongside those I teach.

Interpreter

I am a nationally certified (CI/CT) interpreter and have been working in a variety of settings for over a decade.

Linguist

My research is motivated by patterns I see in my work as an instructor and interpreter, as well as from conversations with Deaf and hearing consumers of interpreting services. I highly value cross-disciplinary collaboration, and was thrilled to co-chair an interdisciplinary research conference on signed langauges in 2014 at Gallaudet (see our fantatstic conference team above).
